Teshie, Ghana — President John Dramani Mahama attended the graduation ceremony at the Ghana Military Academy and Training School in Teshie on April 11, 2025, where he assured the graduating cadets of his support, stating, "We are in solidarity with you and will support you every step of the way." He also addressed security threats in the sub-region, warning that "these threats have the tendency to erode our collective security gains."
The President arrived at the ceremony dressed in the white ceremonial attire of the Ghana Navy, which drew attention from the attendees.
During his speech, President Mahama pledged support for the National Defence University and announced an Armed Forces Home Ownership Scheme to assist officers and soldiers in owning private homes.
He also outlined plans to construct new housing units in military barracks and to refurbish existing but dilapidated accommodations across the country.
President Mahama highlighted the need for improved facilities at the Academy, specifically mentioning a sports complex with a gymnasium and swimming pool, and committed to building an outer perimeter road to aid training.

Regarding the role of the Ghana Armed Forces in national development, the President stated that the Engineer Corps would be authorized to engage in government-funded commercial projects and would be expanded to handle national emergency tasks.
President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to completing the 500-bed Afari Military Hospital in Kumasi, a project he initiated before leaving office in 2017, and mentioned that funds have been allocated for a new military field hospital in Tamale. He emphasized, "Soldiers and defence civilian staff, your health is also a priority. We have a viable vision to upgrade your medical health facilities."
